Welcome to Our WorldLast month, before temperatures were 100 degrees, I took my 3 nieces on a fun shopping trip in downtown Kirkwood. We had a great time. In just about every shop we stepped inside, I called the owner by name, and they returned the greeting, using my name, too. Even when we stopped to grab something to eat and drink, I would say "hi". My nieces reported this to my sister---their mom---when they got home. They told her how I knew just about everybody we met. My sister told them, "Aunt Mary is so connected "! I thought about this-------besides living in our Mayberry-ish city of Kirkwood, where you know so many people by name, it is really my Chamber affiliation that keeps me so connected. I have met and done business with so many wonderful people in our area. It SO matters when you need something; and you know it has to be dependable----and you want to trust whoever is selling or telling you about it. And you KNOW you will see this person again at a Chamber function. So their reputation is on the line, also. I love getting someone's opinion about a product or a procedure that I am unfamiliar with. And I trust that opinion way more when it comes from one of my "connections". LinkedIn and Facebook have their connections, too, but there is something about that old-fashioned look in the eye when someone is telling you something! There's no app for THAT-----at least not yet! I use my Chamber directory first when I'm looking for a particular item or service. Even if the member does not have the answer, I am almost always referred to someone who does. And THAT bears some weight in my decision also. It's just a win-win all the way around! My connection to the Ambassador committee is fun and worthwhile also. It's a good partnership with the other ambassadors. Together we try to meet and greet new members. It's a good feeling to meet new members and welcome them to "our world". It's a nice place to be-----and everyone knows your name!
