Chair ChatOff-Key Swan Song? By David Collin, Busy Bees Embroidery It's incredible to realize a year has gone by. I've had a wonderful time as Chairman of the Board of the Kirkwood-Des Peres Area Chamber. With staff like Lori Givan, Gina March, Iris Colyer and Beth Wideman; directed by our President Jim Wright and a great board, how could it not be? I don't mean to say there were no disagreements, but there was no blood-letting; never an adversarial moment. Jim and Staff, thank you so much for a great year.
I had hoped we would be on our way to our own building with enough space to rent to other businesses, which would pay for physical plant needs, so the money we spend on rent now could go to Chamber member benefits. At least the topic is on the table. I had also hoped we would double member participation but that still really needs work. So, let's chat briefly about participation. So many members miss out on the benefits of attendance and I know a big part of that is scheduling and work. Participation can lead to more business but there's a bigger picture out there. My wife went to breakfast with a friend a few days ago. While there she ran into Dentist Marsha Marden, Attorney Michael Korte, and Tom Riggs who is retired from Riggs Construction & Design but, of course, the company is still prospering. Had it not been for Chamber participation, we probably would never have met them. Along the way in Chamber participation we learn, we form new business relationships and we also make new friends. Ellen O'Brien of Coldwell Banker Gundaker will be your new chair. How about coming out to support her at the Installation and Awards Celebration on February 3rd? We'll look for you. With special thanks to my wife and business partner, Beverly, I must say I've had a wonderful time this last year. Thank you so much for letting me do this. |
