Another Way To Get Mileage Out Of The Chamber

By now, you probably get that I am crazy about the Chamber. But I do get frustrated when I see the long list of members, many who don't participate at all. That's not a judgment or finger pointing; I can only imagine how strong and powerful this Chamber would be if we increased participation. It wouldn't just make the Chamber stronger; it would make all the participants stronger and help their businesses, as well as our business community.

So many of our members tell me they can't come to our events and activities because they are just too busy. That's great! We want you all to be busy in the business of growing your business and making money. Remember, the Chamber is not just about hanging the plaque where customers and clients can see it. It's about exposure so other Chamber members can learn about you, shop your business, refer others to your business, and sometimes give back to the business community by helping with Chamber programs. You can never guess the benefits to your business and to you, personally. If you're too busy, then doggone it, you are too busy. But here's a suggestion for you. See if there is someone on your staff who can come to the Chamber events, especially the free events. Teach them about networking your business, get them a nametag and let them represent you. That training and Chamber exposure can be invaluable. Your employee will learn to share your business, learn public speaking, maybe even consider it all a perk of the job; after all, the Chamber is also fun.

No employees you can send? Then perhaps a friend, a relative, maybe even a customer will go in your place sometime. Think about it.

You certainly don't have to have a presence at the Chamber functions, but it can only help you and the Chamber. That's what we're after; a better and stronger Chamber, strengthening your business and improving our community all at the same time.
