Getting to Know . . .
Business Development Representative
West Community Credit Union
Stephanie Tyler is passionate about helping others and has been fortunate to work for an organization that shares the same desire for nearly 17 years. Her position as Business Development Representative for West Community Credit Union has allowed her to witness the enormously positive impact the credit union has had on the lives of thousands of members needing financial services.
“This year marks the credit union’s 80th anniversary,” Stephanie reports. “We have come a long way since formation in 1936 as Brentwood Mutual Credit Union.” Today West Community Credit Union provides financial services to nearly 20,000 members and has an asset size of over $180 million. The credit union currently has locations in Brentwood, O’Fallon, Kirkwood (located in Woodbine Center) and two Columbia, MO locations. The Columbia locations are divisions of West Community Credit Union and operating under the name Tigers Community Credit Union.
“The credit union growth has been due in large measure to the dedicated, business oriented, professionals who voluntarily serve on our board of directors. They keep an unrelenting eye on service, rates and trends that will continue to serve the needs of members in years to come,” stated Stephanie.
“Our credit union mission is to be our members’ lifelong financial partner by truly understanding their story and delivering smart solutions. Our employees remain focused on member needs to live this commitment every day. They listen to what people need and then help them come up with a plan or solution.”
What is the Credit Union Difference?
Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned financial service cooperatives, founded on the basic principal of People Helping People.
“We offer all the same products and services you’ll find at a bank, but without the stockholders,” Stephanie explains. Because credit unions are member-owned cooperatives, they are not obligated to make a profit for stockholders. Instead, profits are returned to members, as higher savings rates, lower interest rates on loans, and fewer fees.
“It’s really pretty simple: credit unions have a vested interest in the financial success of every member because our members’ success means the success of the credit union.”

All who have met Stephanie know she is an intelligent, knowledgeable, super salesperson with an effervescent personality and a great sense of humor. She not only loves to cook, entertain, travel, and spend time with family and friends, but also, wind-up toys. Yes, she has a collection of about 600 of them and each works! “There’s just something about them,” she laughs.
She’s also active on the Kirkwood-Des Peres Area Chamber of Commerce. “I just love this chamber! I’ve gotten a lot of business through networking here, but it’s been done in fun ways. Jim and the Chamber staff do a good job of getting people involved and that’s important because a strong chamber makes a strong community.”
